Tyra is a former classroom educator who is committed to equity in education and has dedicated her career to advancing educational entities for the benefit of students, teachers, and educational leaders.
Tyra began her career as a middle school social studies and science teacher in a Title 1 school in Zebulon, North Carolina. She considers her time in the classroom as one of the best things she’s done in her life to this day, but her passion for teaching started when she was a young girl living in Manhattan, playing teacher every day after school.
Currently, Tyra is using her passion for students and educational systems to support access to quality curriculum for all students. She believes that supporting student well-being can happen within and outside of the classroom and plans to use her career to improve the lives of students.
Tyra is a proud HBCU graduate and a member of the Divine 9. When not at work, she can be found in a dance class, reading a good book, and/or listening to music.
