Farmington Hills, MI

“We have struggled for years to find a curriculum that helps our students discover ‘the why’ to education. When I saw Wayfinder featured in KQED Mindshift, I knew we had to give it a try. It’s been a phenomenal fit for our staff and our students and helps our teachers build authentic relationships with their students. Wayfinder has been revolutionary for us.”

Training

FlexTech Initially had six teachers trained in 2017. In 2020, an additional four teachers were trained to use Wayfinder.

Timeline

FlexTech began in 2017 with Wayfinder’s purpose toolkits. Now they have expanded to using Purpose and Belonging toolkits with their students. Currently, Wayfinder is taught in every grade.

How Wayfinder is implemented

  • 9th graders used the Belonging toolkit.
  • ~ This was a great way for them to connect with their peers when many students didn’t know anyone.
  • 10th graders started with a few Belonging activities and moved to Purpose activities.
  • ~ Students used physical toolkits and did some things virtually.
  • 11th graders used Purpose for community building.
  • ~ They were trying to build community and welcome routines within the classroom.
  • ~ FlexTech used Wayfinder to do checkins with teachers.
  • 12th graders reflected on their Purpose toolkits.
  • ~ They used Wayfinder to have 1 on 1 conversations with teachers about plans after high school.
